Mary Poppins Comes to Granbury
The singing nanny we all know and love making her way to Granbury. Mary Poppins, made famous by Walt Disney Productions in 1964, will be presented by the Granbury Theatre Company from November 27th through December 23rd.
Based on the Mary Poppins books for children, written by author Pamela L. Travers, the story centers on a mysterious and magical English nanny who is blown by incredibly strong winds into the home of the Banks family to care for their children. The story includes jumping into paintings for adventures, meetings with chimney sweeps, and nostalgic family life.
The Mary Poppins film was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards, of which it won five, making it the most Oscar-nominated Disney-film at the time. Julie Andrews won Best Actress for her portrayal of Mary.
Many theater renditions have been performed of the iconic tale over the years. This holiday season, the Granbury Theatre Company will perform its own Mary Poppins at 133 E Pearl Street on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm. There will also be Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm.
