Granbury Texas’ Golden Girl: Dana Vollmer Sets Olympic World Record!
New World Record and Olympic Gold Medalist Dana Vollmer has made her hometown of Granbury, Texas so very proud!
Dana grew up in Granbury, Texas, and she was the youngest competing swimmer in the 2000 Olympic trials at the age of 12.
At 15, Vollmer found out that she had a heart condition that could potentially be fatal. That didn’t stop her from focusing on her number one passion and giving it everything she had.
Vollmer has won a total of twenty-eight medals in major international competitions, including sixteen golds, eight silvers, and four bronzes, spanning the Olympics, the World Championships, the Pan American Games, the Pan Pacific Championships, and the Goodwill Games.
And this year at the London Olympics, she set a new world record and took the gold for the 100-meter Butterfly! Dana’s parents still reside here in Granbury, Texas and in her honor, the hometown swimming pool is called the Dana Vollmer Municipal Swim Center and so many Granbury kids are truly inspired by Dana!
