Artsy Yet Spooky Halloween Weekend in Granbury
You can have a spooky Halloween just about anywhere, but an artsy yet spooky Halloween? You’ll have to visit Granbury for that. In fact, we have a whole weekend of suggested activities, many full of “spirits.”
FRIDAY
For those thinking of traveling on Friday, you’ll want to arrive by 7 p.m. D’Vine Wine Bar is hosting “Music, Massage and Merlot.” Enjoy more than 20 fine wines ($5 per glass), karaoke, and relax with a massage ($1 per minute). Or get into the festivities hands-on! The wine bar is letting guests make their own wine, bottle it, and embellish it with a custom label. The event lasts till 11 p.m.
SATURDAY
The last Saturday of each month, the Galleries of Granbury offer a free art walk — and this Saturday falls on Halloween! Starting at 5 p.m. Langdon Center Art Gallery, Artefactz, Shanley House Art Gallery, Uptown Arts (located inside The Bridge Boutique), D’Vine Wine and Your Private Collection Art Gallery will open their doors for enthusiasts. You can also ride the complimentary tram (when available) around to the different galleries free of charge. See demonstrations and enjoy some hors d’oeuvres, wine and music till 8 p.m.
After the arts walk, brave souls can embark on the town’s renowned Ghosts and Legends tour. You’ll walk through the Historic Square and learn about the famous characters of Granbury’s past, like the Lady in Red, The Faceless Girl, John Wilkes Booth, outlaw Jesse James and many others. Tours are every Saturday (and Friday) at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. $10 for adults/$7 for children.
Plan ahead and make a reservation for the 11 p.m. Last Mile Cemetery Tour. You’ll walk the quiet grounds of the historic Granbury City Cemetery, the resting place for several of Granbury’s notorious residents, like Ashley Crockett (grandson of David, of Alamo fame), gravesite of outlaw Jesse James, city namesake General Hiram Granbury, and many others. Bring a flashlight and war good walking shoes! $10.
SUNDAY
After a hearty breakfast at the inn, there are many options. Two of the most popular include a tour of the Hood County Jail Museum and a matinee of Sweeney Todd.
The Hood County Jail Museum hosts tours from 1 to 4 p.m. This historic jail was built in 1885. The original jail cells are on the second floor, the tall tower was erected to accommodate hangings. See the Sheriff’s office, kitchen and the great collection of memorabilia. $2 for adults, $1 for Children under 12.
Granbury Opera House is performing Sweeney Todd at 2 p.m. Plan ahead and get tickets to see the demon barber of Fleet Street… a perfect finale to your Halloween getaway.
